About these numbers

Assumes contributions are added at the end of each year before retirement and the same returns are earned every year. In retirement, each year’s spending is withdrawn at the start of the year and rises with inflation; Social Security, pensions, and taxes are not included. Actual inflation and returns will vary, and investing involves risk.
